How do I get started with my life story?
It’s easy! Contact Kathy Evans at 314.740.8859 or info@kathymevans.com to arrange a complimentary consultation at your home or office, during which you will be able to discuss the projects and check out sample books. Once you decide to write your memoir, we make every effort to begin as soon as possible.
How long will it take to write my story?
The process of writing a book can take one year—or several years—depending on the scope of the project. The process is broken down into stages: interviewing, writing, design, and production
What will my memoir include?
This is your story. It can include anything you like! Some people choose to include:
Memories
Interviews with loved ones
Photos
Artwork
Important documents or keepsakes
Historical and cultural research
Family trees
Genealogy
What will it cost?
There are two separate costs associated with Write For You Life Stories: writing and production.
Writing - Each Write For You book is a fully customized project, so there are no average prices. However, the investment can be significant. Clients are billed monthly during the interview and writing process. This keeps expenses manageable and helps clients monitor progress on an ongoing basis.
If you should need to stop or pause for a bit during the writing of your book, you will only owe for work done up to that point, and we can always resume the project later. Likewise, if you decide to go further with your project than originally planned, we'll go with you!
Production - Write For You has a trusted team of production partners to design, print, and bind your story into an heirloom volume that will be treasured for generations. Many factors determine printing and production costs of a Write For You Life Story including:
Length
Number of photos
Number of copies (there is no minimum or maximum)
Design
Type of binding (leather, premium hardbound, classic hardbound, soft cover)
Must I produce my book through Write For You?
No. Write for You partners with John Bennett Book Design Inc. to design our books and to coordinate printing and binding, but you may handle this through an online print-on-demand company or another designer if you prefer.
Who has final oversight of my memoir?
You do! You’ll see drafts throughout the project and be given an opportunity to add or delete content as we go, right up until production. You are the final editor.
May I purchase a life story project as a gift for a relative?
Absolutely! Often adult children will go in together to have their parent’s story told. The process is a gift for the parent; the book is a lasting gift for the family.
Is my book available to others?
That’s entirely up to you. Some clients choose to make their books available publicly, while others prefer to share their books only with their families. Write For You keeps one copy of your book to be used as a sample for prospective clients (unless you direct otherwise), but your book will never be lent out.
